The Salesians of Don Bosco in Battersea

For us the river Thames plays an important part of our lives and the many bridges offer ways of communicating with others in this great city of London. Thus local Salesians, in the parishes, the schools and Universities, see our role as ‘Bridge-Builders’ in Battersea, enabling heart to speak to heart as Blessed John Henry Newman might put it.

The parishes of Our Lady of Mount Carmel & St Joseph (Battersea Park) and The Sacred Heart of Jesus (Battersea) are united under one parish team, though each parish operates as single entities, respecting the wealth of local tradition and are very much aware of building a Christian future, in Battersea, based on strong foundations. As a Federation our ethos is very much Salesian and the three Catholic schools that lie within the parishes are very much central to our way of working. We are blessed with three great communities of families, and members of the parish clergy visit each school on a regular basis. Don Bosco had a very simple way of assessing his places of education.

The Salesians said a good school should be:
  • Home – All the community need to feel comfortable and accepted.
  • School – Solid and good quality education is offered.
  • Playground – An opportunity to relax and enjoy life to the full.
  • Church – A space to pray, to forgive and build up the Body of Christ through Eucharist.
