At St Mary’s school we use Nelson Handwriting Scheme and resources.
It provides clear guidance on developing a whole-school handwriting policy as required by Ofsted.
It develops children’s personal handwriting style to ensure they meet the ‘expected standard’ in the end of key stage writing teacher assessments.
It introduces letters in line with our phonics programme and includes pattern practice and motor skills work with three levels of adaptation to challenge and support our learners.
Models the correct formation on screen for the children to watch and mirror, allowing the teacher to watch the children and instantly correct any misconceptions.
It ensures continuity progression throughout the year groups and avoids repetition.
